‘Intro to Drypoint’ is an introduction to the traditional intaglio print method in which we explore how an image can be transformed by the printmaking process. With an emphasis on learning the process and having fun, no prior experience is required.
Using an acetate plate and archival quality materials we cover basic mark making and inking techniques. We work towards creating five different images based on your original drawing or photo.
All materials and light refreshments are provided. Numbers limited to 4 to ensure that you get full access to the print press.
Mel Lamanna is a printmaker/painter living and working in Dunsborough, Western Australia. Life experiences from a multi-cultural upbringing, travel, and a diverse career in ecotourism, arts and Aboriginal Heritage has given her a unique insight into people, place and culture.
In 2016 Mel enhanced her printmaking skills at Art Print Residence and Studio Asssalt in Spain, which lead to her inclusion in the Spanish publications Romancero Gitano (2017) and Luces de Bohemia (2018). On her return to Australia, Mel graduated from Edith Cowan University with a Bachelor of Arts (Majoring in Visual Arts) and began working from her printmaking studio in Dunsborough to run workshops and create works which are in the private collections of local patrons.
Under the moniker of Unruly Garden, Mel’s dedication to the printmaking process is reflected in her meticulous works and by the passion she imbues in her workshop students, some of whom have gone on to establish a print club that work and exhibit at her studio.
Drypoint printmaking workshops feature regularly at Unruly Garden Studio, with customised workshops held on site or at other venues by arrangement. Mel offers an engaging, hands on experience that encourages participants to play with the process and experience the buzz of creating a unique work of art.
